Jesus Christ Came to Destroy Human Misery, But Not Only The Types You May Think Of!

“…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”  (1 John 3:8)

Many today would be, and perhaps are thrilled to know that Jesus Christ became a human being for the purpose of eliminating human misery, but they fail to fully understand how this may apply to themselves. They are only too happy for Jesus Christ to deal with their neighbor’s sins, (those which annoy them), or their spouse’s sins, ( those which cause them emotional or physical pain), but it would be quite another matter indeed if Jesus Christ started to point out their own sins, and show how wicked they really are, and the misery that ensues from disobedience to God’s perfect standard for human behavior.

1 John 3:4 tells us, “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. ” This isn’t a human law which could potentially be either good or evil, perhaps simply to generate revenue, or to protect the life and property of another; but, this is speaking of the perfect law of God, which if followed, leads to a relieving of human misery by that person who conforms their life to it.

Luke 10:25-28 says,  And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?” So he answered and said,” ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.'” And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.  (I John 4:20-21 These verses make it clear that a person cannot love God without them also loving His creation, ie. human beings.

“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. “Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. “And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, “so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; “for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ (Acts 17:24-28)

Since God made man, and loves His creation, He alone knows how man ought to live, and what is best for him, just as only loving parents know what is best for their children. So the question is, what are you going to do about God’s love to you?

Many people know the words of John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  But, how many know the following words?  “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:17)

But what do you and I need to be saved from? Bad health, a future automobile accident, financial reverses? No, we need to be saved from our rebellion against God, which is preparing us to spend eternity with Satan and his angels.  Do you remember the words of   1 John 3:4? It states, “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. ” That means that sin is a human’s selfish rebellion against an all-loving God, Who is trying to stop him from destroying himself and others.

(Matthew 12:36) “But I tell you that for every careless word that men shall speak they will be held accountable on the day of Judgement.” (WNT)

(Revelation 20:11-15) “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (NKJV)

But, thankfully, God offers hope and help for those who realize their need of it. (Mark 2:17) “…Jesus…said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (NKJV)

1 John 1:8-9 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (NKJV)
